Towards the western shore
10"x8" oil on wood
What matters in life? Is it our fashion? Out house and it's "curb appeal"? Is it our car and the status it presents? How silly all of that is. I was going to say how silly all of that seems but many people actually believe it is all so important. I recently spoke with a friend about this and it was said that in his neighbourhood keeping up with the Jones is high priority. Do we not realize that in this world where everyone is so concerned with how they are perceived by others, it is likely that no one cares what YOU are wearing or driving or live in. They are too busy worrying about how they look to be concerned with how you look. So relax.
I embarked on a trek into the woods with another friend recently, JP was my guide. we came upon this scene and I knew I would paint it one day. Looking out at the western side of Gatineau Park around Meech lake I see what really matters. Not my clothes, not my car or my house. THIS matters. Preserving this and enjoying it for generations to come. There are some who are battling to save it. I choose to speak with my brush. My brush tells what matters. That's my mission as an artist.

This sketch above became this finished painting below
The Pine Tree Painter.
How did I become known as the Pine Tree Painter? You could say I paint a lot of Pine Trees, that would be true. I paint a lot of other things too, but Pine Trees, Spruce Trees, Birch and others seem to be a continuous string in what i do. I just like the way they stand there like a custodian of the land. or a greeter to nature. So, I continue down the path with the Pine Tree Painter name on my head, It's ok.
