Jack of all trades, master of none
Trying to hit too many targets and never hitting any. Aiming at the flock of birds in mid flight but never hitting any of them. I could go on but you get the point. Trying so many things in life but never becoming very good at any of them has led me down many dead end streets in my life.
The very first passion in my life was the art. Drawing, sketching and painting as a young kid.
That led to the sign painting road. Lettering trucks, vans, store fronts, office doors. it was fun to a point but i was also a drummer on the side. On the side? While being a sign painter I also wanted to become a rock star drummer. and a world famous artist.
Then came photography. Bought myself a meet little Canon AE-1 camera and some lenses and then I wanted to be a pro photographer. Still trying to keep my drumming hopes alive, you know. Oh, and also becoming a famous artist.
Somewhere along the road I got into banking. What a thrill! working right in the bunnies centre of Canada with all the big shots! Still also trying to be a rock star drummer, but also working away at improving my artist skills.
Then banking came to a screeching halt. 12 years in and it was over. I was still playing drums, photography had taken a far back seat, but art was becoming the main driver.
It seems sad, in a way, that drumming has had to take a back seat as well. It meant so much to me. To be a drummer in this modern world you have to have so many elements working in your favour and if any are missing it is almost an impossible task.
In life the cream always rises to the top. For me the cream is the one passion that has been there from the very beginning. My utter love for the water, trees, leaves, hills and all that sways in the wind. The flow of the paint through the bristles of the brush, the positioning of nature any way I wanted it to be on the canvas. It has become the only road I know. The only way to fly.
Slicing through the still waters at the setting of the sun, life has taken on a new meaning that seems inescapable.
I have been jack of many trades in my life, but I have learned to focus and move in one direction. It's rewards have been many and it is as if it was always meant to be from the very beginning.

This sketch above became this finished painting below
The Pine Tree Painter.
How did I become known as the Pine Tree Painter? You could say I paint a lot of Pine Trees, that would be true. I paint a lot of other things too, but Pine Trees, Spruce Trees, Birch and others seem to be a continuous string in what i do. I just like the way they stand there like a custodian of the land. or a greeter to nature. So, I continue down the path with the Pine Tree Painter name on my head, It's ok.
