Portraits

I consider myself as a landscape artist, one who dabbles in occasional portraiture. My portraits are a little whimsical, not intended to be perfect or realistic. I do intend to tell a story with them, some stories are happy and some not so much. Art is about honesty, telling it like it is without hiding the truth. With that said, my first portrait impressions were of people I see every day in the town where I live. People on the street whose lives have been upended through circumstances beyond their control. I have a special place in my heart for those ones who have fallen through the cracks. From the time when I was just six years old accompanying my father to minister to and feed the homeless on the streets of Toronto, to the many I see as I move through the downtown blocks of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The juxtaposition of rich and poor in this city is a story all of it's own and I am moved to tell some of those stories through the less than perfect portraits that come forth through my brushes.
Above all, painting portraits lends itself to the story teller that I am at heart. I invite you to join in my journey as I develop my skill through daily practice and rendering of my "little portraits".
