Nipigon

The story.
Picture

When you travel north of Thunder Bay you eventually come to Lake Nipigon. This is where dramatic Canadian Shield begins to powerfully announce itself. Rocks begin to tower, Spruce and Pine grip on like and reach even higher towards the great sky. And the Sky welcomes them with open arms.
The waters of Nipigon sing with reflections of the drama that towers from it's ripples and carry you onward as if to say; "you have arrived".

I have childhood memories of the lake but it was a documentary on TVO that presented an Aboriginal Elder artist taking a young aspiring artist out on a canoe tour of Lake Nipigon in an effort to inspire the young man to remember his past. I saw these tall towering rocks and the big skies and I was moved to paint them.
