8"x8" oil on masonite
I often move towards painting dark scenes. I always go there with caution because I wonder how they will be received. Then my better judgment steps up and I realize I simply have to follow my heart.
I'd like to be able to tell you that it comes from a dark place in my soul, like some tormented artist, but that is not the case. If you look closely at this painting shown above you will see the happy little stream running through the otherwise dark scene. This little stream is my heart saying to you that there is hope. There is peace in times of trouble and you just have to look for it.
My dark scenes always have some point of hope. It may be the glow of a distant sun setting behind the trees, or a camp fire in the woods. There is always hope expressed there. A refuge. "The sun will come out tomorrow…" is what follows every sunset and your life and mine are no different.
We all have issues, problems. Any one of us can go on at length about all that troubles us and rightly so. But sometimes we need to seek the happy little stream in the midst of our troubles.
