This year we decided to do something different over the Christmas/New Year break. We booked a few days of R&R at the Fern Resort on Lake Couchiching. One of the activities offered there was dog sledding. I have never done it in my life and from a distance I have to say it didn't look like a big deal. On the second day of our four day stay I ventured over with my seven year old to see what all the barking and noise was about. There in a restless pack they jumped and yelped and howled as if their tails were on fire!
These dogs are bread to run!
I was bitten by the excitement and signed up for the next days run. I have to say I went to bed that night a little nervous, after all I had to sign a lengthy waiver for the run and what if I couldn't control those creatures?
I just want to say here and now that this experience was my highest point of the trip. Hopping up onto the back of the sleigh, lifting the hook out of the snow and feeling the pull of those frisky dogs! Wow! what power! What energy! s we slid for a mile or so through the woods I felt as though the dogs were the happiest creatures alive and at that moment I was one with them. Who can say how my seven year old felt sitting on the sleigh being whisked through the snow like a bundle of joy.
An activity I highly recommend!
