Change:
Loosing it for a good reason
What I want to do is to be full, enjoy what I eat and be satisfied with myself. I can tell you that I have been fulfilling the first two parts very well for all of my 52 years and more so in the past five years since I have enjoyed financial success. But being full and enjoying what I have been eating has been to my detriment because I have ignored the third part. To be satisfied with myself.
When I finish a plate of bacon, eggs (medium over) and white toast I feel full and I enjoy it. So also is true when I complete a burger or pasta dish from my fav fast food outlet. But satisfying myself is not something that has happened of the past few years because I am aware of a new problem. I am 52 years old this year. My body is changing and it is sending me signals that I know are not good. I am tired all of the time. I am sick a lot and I have about enough energy to carry me to the car and thats about it. I honestly don't even care about things like what people think of my weight, I have lived with that for many years. Since my mid thirties when I began to develop this "spare tire" and become just another North American middle aged family man. Too busy to be concerned and having no signs of ill effects, so no worries.
But that is all changing.
So I'm on a mission to change.
I'm not on a mission to loose weight, but I know that WILL happen on the course I have chosen. I do want to feel satisfied. I want to finish my meals knowing that I have filled up, enjoyed it and feel great about what I have eaten.
A week ago I weighed in at exactly 263.8 pounds. Wow. I have ballooned. I researched and then ordered my very own heavy duty (no whimsy products for me) Brevil Juicer. Then I researched and set up a complete juicer diet for myself that I knew I could live with. To be clear, I am not on a diet. No. Not. Diet conjure up all kinds of bad thoughts. I am not on a diet. I am on a change. A change for life. My plan calls for not just juice, no one could stand that for long. My plan is inclusive of juice (made up of many fruits and begins) seeds, nuts, and beans. I am allowing a healthy portion of meet twice per week. No bread, no cereals..just the good stuff.
The picture you are seeing at the top of this blog is todays portion for me. Here is what it is:
I begin my day eating from my nuts bowl, which I keep on the counter and in easy reach at all times, good and full so I don't have to refill very often. That but bowl, as you can see is full of nuts, raisins, berries, seeds, and dried fruits (I like some sweet flavours).
The juice is a mixture of strawberries, kiwis, celery, beet, oranges, pears and an apple. That jug was full when I started and I have consumed half of it for breakfast. The rest will last me the day until I make my supper portion around 4:00.
So far my experience has been very good. I have no craving for coffee or tea. My energy level has become very good. One down side is that I am visiting the washroom very often. I know that is just the cleansing out of all the garbage in my system. I'm ok with that.
I did fall asleep last night at just 9:30 and that is two hours earlier than I usually do. So I feel like I slept in this morning, and thats a good thing, even though I did not sleep in.
I want to tell you that I am on a mission. To change my health and be stronger and happier. I'm not on some diet, I'm not following some get rich quick scheme diet program, I am not doing that. Another thing I am not doing is talking about this with my inner circle of friends and relatives. I do not want the usual (trying to be helpful but) silly comments that they will make because they are happy for you but fully expect you to fall on your face. No. I am blogging about this because I know someone out there is like me and needs help. I know you are desperate like me for change. I am hoping that my change will inspire your change. There is no big conglomerate behind me sponsoring or promoting a product. It's just me. Hey, I'm not selling anything either. Just offering up my experience and allowing you to see it and make your own decisions.
I invite you to stay tuned, I will blog in about once a week to give progress and my experience as i go. I will blog about my recipes as well. I would love to read your story and hear from you about what this means to you.
